Alfred Ayars Schilt, 81, Noblesville, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009 at home. He was born August 30, 1927 in Haigler, Nebraska to Alfred Earl and Marjorie (Ayars) Schilt.
Alfred was an analytic inorganic chemist. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Anglican Church. He served in the Navy. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, and was an avid outdoorsman. He earned his Master's degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and his PhD from University of Illinois. He had been on the faculty of University of Michigan; and then became a full Professor at Northern Illinois University. He wrote two chemistry books, and was lead author on multiple scientific reports. In retirement, he worked with Habitat for Humanity, and Christians Concerned for Community in Gainsville, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Schilt; sons, Andrew Ayars Schilt, and Dr. Bruce Franklin Schilt; daughter, Nolene Adell Schilt; brother, Calvin Schilt; and sister, Marsha Lawson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Erich Squire Schilt.
A memorial services will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville, with Rev. Dr. Tom Tirman officiating.
