Ann Laurie James, joined her beloved husband Ronald in the glorious afterlife on June 7, 2020. Born on January 25, 1945, she was the loving mother of Laurie, step-mother of Becky, Mike, and Ken; mother-in-law of Ron; proud grandmother of Alex, Marlee, Michaela, Leia, Zach, Matt, Ryan, and Melissa; and honorary grandmother of Zsofi.
While Ann worked for a number of businesses throughout her career, including Land of Hi-fi record store and Consumers Power, she was best known for her tireless volunteer work. A Michigan native, she spent most of her life in Flushing, where she was a fixture of the community thanks to her work with organizations such as the class of ‘63 reunion committee, the high school marching band, Flushing Senior Center, and Trinity Episcopal Church, where she held various positions including outreach for the underprivileged youth of Genesee County.
In 1966, Ann married Loren Hazel, and together they had a daughter, Laurie. She raised Laurie, and helped raise her step-daughter, Rebecca “Becky”, to be upstanding citizens and aided them through good times and bad.
In 1991, Ann was remarried to her beloved Ron James. Together, Ann and Ron doted upon Ann’s grandchildren and welcomed friends and family into their happy home. The couple were married for 15 years, until Ron passed away due to complications from multiple sclerosis.
After having a number of adventures around the world, Ann moved to Fishers, Indiana to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. At Northridge Retirement Living, she quickly made new friends, joined a bean bag baseball league, played Euchre, and enjoyed concerts from time to time.
Ann had an incredibly kind heart, a mind full of knowledge, and an ear that was always ready to listen. She loved music with a passion, especially Motown, Rock and Roll, and specifically Bob Seger. An avid reader, Ann loved to immerse herself in the works of Debbie Macomber and others. She enjoyed Hallmark movies, card games, and had a particular fondness for Red Lobster. No matter where she went, Ann was always beloved by both her friends and her community thanks to her contagious laugh and kind and loving personality.
Ann was a devout Christian, and even after moving to Indiana, maintained her ties with Trinity Episcopal Church in Flushing, Michigan. She loved her family deeply, and they will love her and cherish her memory always.
Ann’s funeral service will be held on Friday, June 12 at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville, Indiana. After the service, Ann will be moved to Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she will be buried alongside her husband, Ron James.
