Arthur Fendrick, 77, of Noblesville, passed away on the evening of Monday, December 5, 2016 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on May 27, 1939 to Steven and Julia (Kubas) Fendrick in Stark County, North Dakota.
Arthur was a 1957 graduate of Austin High School in Austin, MN, received his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University, and his Master's in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University; he was the first in his family to have a college education. Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis; being a civil engineer, he was under orders and on standby to either disarm or detonate the nuclear missiles in Cuba at the order of the President. Arthur's engineering unit was charged with surveying and laying out the Eternal Flame at the grave of President John F. Kennedy. For 33 years, he worked as a Civil Engineer for the Federal Highway Administration, and was involved in the development of the Eisenhower Interstate System, including the planning and construction. Arthur retired as the Division Administrator for the State of Indiana. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Arthur traveled to all 50 states, and especially enjoyed visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota. He coached softball and basketball, and loved sailing, boating, and camping. Arthur was the rock of his family, and cherished the time that he spent with them.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Fendrick; son, Michael (Cynthia) Fendrick; daughter, Deborah (John) Forbes; grandchildren, Christina Fendrick, Jack Fendrick, Grace Fendrick, Caroline Fendrick, Kate Fendrick, Claire Fendrick, Evelyn (Robert) Poeppelmeier, Ivana Forbes, Rebecca Forbes, and John Arthur Forbes; great-grandson, Israel Arthur Poeppelmeier; sister, Lucille (Keith) Carlson; as well as several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Fendrick.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 East 191st Street in Noblesville, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Tom Metzger will officiate.
