Avena (Rayburn) Simmons, 78, Noblesville, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. She was born February 24, 1931 in Walker, Arkansas to Homer and Leona Josephine (Hercamp) Rayburn.
Avena was a 1950 graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College. She had been a home economics teacher before becoming a full-time homemaker. She had also worked at Reasner Drug Store.
She was a member of Green Valley Church of Christ in Noblesville. She was baptized at Black Oak, Arkansas in 1950.
She loved her grandchildren, as well as gardening, flowers, birds and cooking.
She is survived by daughters, Carri (Thomas) Venable and Angela (Robert) Lovell, both of Noblesville; sister, Janada Brandon of Searcy, AR; and four grandchildren, Emily Pope, Heidi Schwab, Andrew Venable & Haley Lovell.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Simmons; a daughter, Janelle Simmons; and a sister, Catherine Hughes.
Services will be held at 2:30PM on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Green Valley Church of Christ in Noblesville, with Bill Brooks officiating. Friends may call Saturday, August 8, 4:00 - 7:00PM at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
