Longtime Fishers resident and prominent business owner, A.W. "Mac" Reynolds, Jr., passed away on January 17, 2008 in Noblesville, IN after being hospitalized for several weeks at Riverview Hospital following complications of a stroke.
He was born Arzell Washington Reynolds, Jr., but known as 'A.W.' or to friends as "Mac", a nickname that his late father acquired years before. He was married to Arline (Zook) Reynolds on December 31, 1938, who survives.
After attending Fishers schools, Mac graduated from Castleton High School, and worked for Roberts Dairy as well as continued farming. On December 15, 1955, both he and Arline founded the family-owned and operated John Deere dealership, Reynolds Farm Equipment, Inc., in Fishers, IN. The family business continues to strive and make tremendous growth with four statewide Reynolds locations as well as interest in seven other statewide John Deere dealerships, a legacy that is directly attributed to the business and Christian ethics in which Mac based his decisions and actions. While representing Deere & Company, he received many sales and service awards. He founded Britton Golf Course in 1986 until he sold the property 20 years later.
In 1998, Mac was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash award, the highest civilian honor in the state of Indiana by the late Governor Frank O'Bannon. He also received the highest award from the Lion's Club, the Arthur Fellows Award. He was a member of Odd Fellows, the Eastern Star, and the Scottish Rite.
Mac would be the first to downplay and shy away from any awards or achievements to which others might like to recognize him for his many contributions, both physically and monetarily. His personal wisdom, as mentioned by him even recently was that we are put on earth to be able to help others, insight that would have come from his faith-based Christian background.
He was involved with many community projects and organizations, but certainly recognized as being a member of the Fishers United Methodist Church, charter member of the Fishers Lions Club, charter member of the Fishers Community Volunteer Fire Department and a member for over fifty years of the Fishers Masonic Lodge among many. One of his greatest pleasures was to be able to showcase the family business' annual outdoor Christmas lights display at the Fishers store location as he loved to share the joy and bring happiness to those within the community.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Larry A. (& Patti) Reynolds of Palm Harbor, FL, son, Gary A. (& Cindy) Reynolds of Noblesville, daughter, Mary A. (& Dave) Lawson of Fishers, brother, Joe Reynolds of Noblesville, brother, Jay Reynolds of Noblesville, brother, Jim Reynolds of Belleville, IL, brother, Jon Reynolds of Huntington Beach, CA, sister, June Rhoades of San Diego, CA, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Jerry Reynolds; one sister, Joy Wilson; and a grandson, Kyle Benson.
Services will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, January 21, 2008 at Fishers United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Reed and Rev. Aaron Hobbs, officiating. Friends may call Sunday, January 20, 2:00 - 8:00 PM at Fishers United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Fishers, Indiana.
