Barbara Jean Decker (Grammy), 99, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at IU Health Hospital North in Indianapolis. She was born on February 22, 1922 to John and Josephine (Evans) McDonald in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Barbara graduated from DePauw University with a bachelor’s degree in Music. She was an accomplished musician who accumulated multiple national awards for violin, piccolo, and conducting. Over the years, she taught hundreds of young people to play both violin and piano. She was active in her teaching until the amazing age of 96.
Barbara loved her family more than anything else. She is survived by her two sons, Eric R. Decker and Brian J. Decker; six grandchildren, Micaela Klein, Geoffrey Klein, Kristopher Decker, Jeremy Klein, Nicholas Decker, Michael Decker; and eight great-grandchildren, Gaylen Saviano, Morgan Saviano, Adelaide Saviano, Marie Klein, Greta Klein, Harvey Decker, Milo Decker, and Baby Decker (due July 30, 2021).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Regis Decker, her daughter Gaylen (Decker) Klein, and brother, Royce McDonald.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home located at 12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. The family requests that those attending wear a mask.
