Bebita Corya Kennedy

Bebita Corya Kennedy, 83, beloved mother of Corya Kennedy Channing, James Jr. "Chooch" (Marie), and John (Terri) all local residents of the Indianapolis area passed away at The Waters of Greenbrier Nursing home, Saturday, May 15, 2010.
The energetic Mrs. Kennedy had been very active in a wide assortment of local activities including politics, sports, and drama and was known for her enthusiasm and commitment. Her daughter Corya said of her mother "People just gravitated to her; everyone loved her." She graduated from Howe High School and went on to earn both a bachelor and masters degree from Butler University, where she was selected as the Freshman Rose Queen and was also the pledge class president of the Alpha Chi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and staff member of the Collegian newspaper. She studied art with Elmer Taflinger and won a Scholastic Art award. An avid bridge player, lifeguard, PTA president, Girl Scout leader and Day Camp Director, she also served as the President of the Beta Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa Associates in. Noblesville and was a precinct Committeewoman.
Mrs. Kennedy was also known as a prolific reader, and had appeared in plays for the Belfry Theatre Group. She inspired her daughter who is currently the head of the Purdue Calumet Theatre Company. Bebita and daughter Corya had the unusual coincidence of being in the same college course at IU becoming as their instructor said were the first "mother/daughter" students he had ever heard of. Mrs. Kennedy is probably best known to local residents as the Journalism and English teacher at Noblesville High School. In her interesting and varied life she worked as the Animal Control Officer for Noblesville, taught Writing Skills at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, managed a Brown County art gallery and spent 2 years living with husband and family in Mexico City. Bebita Corya Kennedy, her son John said, loved the Colts, the Butler Bulldogs, her children and her life.
Mrs. Kennedy is also survived by her brother, Robert Corya (Marian) former business editor of the Indianapolis News, nieces and nephews and grandchildren, James B. Kennedy III of Indianapolis and Derek Kennedy (Gail Hammer) of Ft. Collins, CO and three great-grandchildren, Seamus, Sebastian and Moira.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann who died suddenly in 1964.
A visitation with memorial service will be held at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street in Noblesville, IN on Saturday, June 12, 2010 beginning at 11:00AM.
