Benjamin Spurlock

Benjamin L. Spurlock Jr., 89, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. He was born on July 8, 1924 to Benjamin and Myrtle Spurlock in Grandview, Indiana.
In 1942, Benjamin graduated from Ben Davis High School, and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1943-1946 during WWII, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in 1949, and worked for National Cash Register from 1949-1982.  After receiving his Juris Doctor as a member of the IU Law School Class of 1985, Benjamin was a general practice Attorney.  He was also a builder and developer for his company, Ben L. Spurlock Co., Inc.  Benjamin was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Ilene Spurlock, whom he married on December 9, 1950; daughters, Deborah (Richard) Leasure, and Janis (Daniel) Calvert; sons, Jeffrey Lane Spurlock, and Brian (Sally) Spurlock; grandchildren, Natalie (Joe) Thompson, Nicole Leasure, Ryan (Tracy) Leasure, Heath (Aleque) Calvert, Tarah M.C. (Joe) Baldwin, Spencer, Savannah, and Sierra Spurlock; one great-grandchild, Sophie, and two more on the way.
In addition to his parents, Benjamin was preceded in death by his half-brothers, Homer Wright, and Russell Wright; and half-sister, Mabel Barnhart.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers, with Pastor Daniel Tidd officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shepherds Ministries, 1805 15th Avenue, Union Grove, WI 53182.
