Bernard Charles Hatke, 87, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Noblesville. He was born on June 30, 1931 to Bernard and Florence (Deboy) Hatke in Lafayette, Indiana.
Bernie proudly served in the United States Army in the 45th Infantry during the Korean War. He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School and Purdue University. Bernie worked for Eaton Corporation as an engineer for 25 years. He was a 20 gallon blood donor. Bernie was known for his cookie making, peanut brittle making, and wood working. He was quick to lend a helping hand and loved being around his family. Bernie enjoyed his garden, playing in the dirt, and loved Purdue basketball.
He is survived by his children, Susan (John) VandeVen, Sheryl (Scott) Ingram, Sheila (Mike) Lehr, and Stephen (Kelly) Hatke; siblings, Richard Hatke, Louise Wortman, Rose Murphy, Birdella Kesling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, June Hatke; grandson, Brandon Lehr; and sister, Velma McGlothin.
Mass will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Boniface Church, 318 N 9th St in Lafayette, Indiana. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm to the time of service at the church. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brandon Lehr Memorial Fund, c/o Hempfield Stingrays, 657 Eastside Dr, Landisville, PA 17538.
