Betty Jean "Betsy" (Shepard) Hand, 84, passed away after an extended illness, on Tuesday, January 4, 2011. She was born on March 13, 1926 to Clarence and Gladys (Kendall) Shepard in Wabash, Indiana, where she was raised.
Betsy was a graduate of Wabash High School and then went on to earn a BS in Education from Northern Illinois University, and an MA in Education Vocational Endorsement from Ball State University. She performed her graduate study at Indiana State University.
She enjoyed a rich and varied career as a business woman and educator. Her most challenging position, as a technical writer with a company contracted by the US Government, consisted of writing an instruction manual on the manufacture of M1A1 tanks. She was 68 years young.
Betsy was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Noblesville. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles; and her favorite holiday was Christmas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband , John Stanley Hand, and their youngest son, Trent Leslie Hand.
Betsy is survived by daughters, Kim Weil and husband Jerome, of Slidell, Louisiana & Shelley Smith and husband Michael, of Carmel, Indiana; son Michael Hand of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Carolyn Hill and husband Ralph, of Wabash, Indiana & Joy Gross and husband David.
There will be no public memorial service held.
