Betty Jean McQuay

Betty Jean McQuay, 92, of Carmel, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2022.  She was born on November 11, 1929 to Paul and Lois (Adams) Gilmore in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in her grandparents house.

Betty was born and raised in Mississippi. She met her husband Russell in 1949 while in New Orleans and they married in 1950. In 1953, Russell and Betty moved to Chicago, Illinois when Russell took a new job. They spent 30 years in the area, raising two children and immersing themselves in their walk with the Lord by attending Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park. Betty lead Bible studies in their home and was very active in Women's Aglow Ministries.  In 1993 they moved to Zionsville to be closer to their children. She regularly attended Bible Studies and lead Prayer Groups. Betty blessed her neighbors and friends with her piano playing. Betty was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Grace Church in Noblesville. Throughout her life Betty enjoyed sewing, needlework, craft projects, reading the Bible and sending cards. She loved her grandchildren and her miracle great-grandson. 

She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Daniel) McQuay Reitsma of Hebron, Kentucky; son, Kam (Deb) McQuay of Carmel, Indiana; grandchildren, Kendall (Mackenzie) McQuay of Indianapolis, and Morgan (John) Dyck of Auburn, Alabama; and great-grandchild, Liam Hunter McQuay; and several nephews and nieces and countless friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Russell McQuay; and sister, Phyllis Ann Lambert.

Services will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.  Private family burial will be at Union Lutheran Cemetery in Zionsville.
