Byrne Edward Hallett of Fishers, passed away on Monday Sept. 6, 2010. Born in Indianapolis on May 13, 1921, he was the son of James T. and Carrie N. (Havens) Hallett.
A 1942 graduate of Indiana University, he enlisted in the United States Navy and spent four years in the south Pacific in command of a Naval gunboat. His fleet saw action at Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. During the Korean War he commanded the Naval Training Center located in Georgetown, South Carolina.
Shortly after WWII, Byrne transferred to a naval reserve unit and launched a business career with Western Electric, retiring in 1980.
Never standing still, Byrne continued to serve his community in retirement. He joyfully volunteered his time to the Town of Fishers where he served as President of the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning appeals.
He is survived by his son Gerald W. Hallett and daughter-in-law Katherine Harcourt Hallett of Carmel. Grandson Christopher J. & Lindley Hallett and grandson John E. Hallett. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis Jo Bretz of Jamestown, NY and sister-in-law Edith Hallett of Brownsburg.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years Sarah E. (Davis) Hallett, and siblings Elizabeth Hallett Chandler and Fred S. Hallett.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 8, 2010 at 11:00 am at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN, with visitation from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm on Tuesday September 7, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
