Charles Murphy White, age 87, of Noblesville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday May 1, 2011. A lifelong resident of Noblesville, Indiana and member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, White was a Noblesville city councilman for 24 years and graduated from Noblesville High School in 1941. He worked for the Indianapolis Star as a linotype operator and as an insurance agent at the John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 20 years and served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. When faced with the diagnosis of cancer of the esophagus, he became thoughtful for a moment and said he would face it as each day comes - - a testament to his faithful resilience.
Friends can visit with the family at the Randall and Roberts Funeral Home at 1150 Logan Street in Noblesville, Indiana on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services to follow immediately afterward. Burial will take place at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville, Indiana.
White is survived by two loving daughters, Tonja White Goodloe of Carmel, Indiana and Dedra White-Montgomery of Dolton, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVonne and a daughter Lisa White. He also has three grandchildren Kira Quarles of Atlanta, Georgia, Andre Goodloe of Indianapolis, and Tia Goodloe of Carmel, Indiana. In addition, he has two great- grandchildren, Kaeden and Karys Quarles, both of Atlanta, Georgia. He has one sister, Maizie Glover of Noblesville, Indiana and one brother, Norman White of Indianapolis, Indiana.
White was very active in his community and enjoyed golf and listening to jazz. On March 20, 2011, he was commended for his long-standing commitment to his church and his public service to the city of Noblesville. Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear declared that day as 'C. Murphy White Day'.
