Carmen "Boots" Herr Grabb, formerly of Wildwood, FL and Decatur, IL passed away Tuesday, February 1st at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville at 90 years of age. Boots was born May 18th, 1920, in Woodford County, IL, the daughter of Fred and Maude Kindig Herr. Her parents preceded her in death, as did a sister and three brothers. She married Loren "Doc" Grabb on Aug. 2, 1941. He preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of El Paso, (IL) Community High School and completed two years at Western Illinois University during the Depression.
Boots had a life-long love and involvement in the church, family, charity, sports and animals. She was Secretary of the Illinois State Polio Board and got to meet Dr. Jonas Salk, the developer of the polio vaccine. She was a founding member and Elder of Woodland Chapel Presbyterian Church, President of PTA's at Roach, Muffley, Johns Hill and Eisenhower High schools, active in the Red Cross and various hospital auxiliaries. She participated at the championship level in golf, bowling and bass fishing and also enjoyed tennis, her horses, water skiing and boating. A true "farmer's daughter", she could cook and grow anything and had a "natural way" with all animals, domestic and wild. She owned and operated Village Candy, Cards and Gifts in Brettwood Village in Decatur for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Tamela) Grabb & Ron Grabb, both of Noblesville; and six grandchildren, Nikole Grabb of Marietta, GA, Lindsey Carter, Ashlyn Carter & Will Grabb all of Noblesville, and Sally & Christopher Grabb of TX.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1PM Sat. Feb. 5th at Marrowbone Cemetery, Bethany, IL. An informal gathering to celebrate her life will take place at Ruby Tuesday's, 4405 State Route 36 East, Decatur, IL following the service.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in the interest of severely brain-injured young people to The Elysian Foundation, c/o Harris Bank, 107 Logan St., Noblesville, IN 46060.
