Cecil W. Vanderwielen, aged 87, of Cicero, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 after many years of declining health. He was born on June 21, 1929 in Lafayette, Indiana, the youngest son of Charles and Rebecca (Torrenga) Vanderwielen.
Cecil was a 1947 graduate of Lafayette Jeff and was a member of the basketball team. He loved sports, following the Bronchos, Boilermakers and Cubs throughout his life. Cecil was a stockholder and employee of Indiana Automation of Noblesville, retiring in 1992, but remaining an ever-present greeter in the lobby until 2000. He loved living on the lake, wintering in Florida and following his children's careers and endeavors. Cecil met and fell in love with Phyllis Brooks in 1950. They were married in 1952 and celebrated 64 years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John & Chuck; and sister, Ruth Vanderveen. Cecil leaves his wife; children, Rick (Nancy) and Judi (Roy) Johnson of Noblesville, and Jim (Cindy) of Clive, Iowa; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville, with visitation from 11:00 am to the time of service. Pastor Teri Ditslear will officiate. His interment will follow on Wednesday, July 27 at 11:30 am at Spring Vale Cemetery in Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 8604 Allisonville Road, Suite 140, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
