Chaplain Tom Burton, 70, of Noblesville, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was born December 18,1943 to the late George and Kathryn Burton.
Tom's love for the Lord and obedience to our Heavenly Father led him away from being lead mechanic at Trans World Airlines for 21 years to attend Southern Baptist Seminary. His passion to serve and spread The Gospel to others sent him to preach in Noblesville. Besides pastoring his church home, he volunteered at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, where he served from 2000 until his passing. As the Agency's Senior Chaplain he was instrumental in the development and organization of the support teams and services.
Tom found absolute joy in every opportunity to serve others: family (including 17 foster children), chaplains, inmates, and any passing stranger. He went peacefully, leaving his earthly desire to grow God's Kingdom.
His favorite passage he wants to share with you today is 1Thess 5:16-18, which reads "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Joyce; children, Tommy (Paula) Burton, Shanoah (Jeff) Bruner, Jim Hunt, David (Vivian) Burton and Angela Burton; his grandchildren whom he was blessed and loved by, Nicole, Mitchell, Leah, Kayleigh, Mia and Hannah; brother, Jack (Shirley) Burton; and sister, Alice (Jack) Ruppel.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Christ Community Church of Hamilton County, 772 North 10th Street, in Noblesville, with Pastor Mark Fidler and his son Tommy Burton officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the church. Inurnment will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Crownland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hamilton County Chaplaincy Fund, 18100 Cumberland Road, Noblesville, IN 46060.
