Born May 3, 1944 to Harry Pierce Gowan and Martha Jane (Mullin) Gowan, Charles Edward Gowan was destined to a long life well lived. In his 80 years on earth, he swam with wild manatees and sharks during many scuba trips, snorkeled with dolphin in Florida, rehabbed houses with his brother Harry, rode quads on rustic logging trails with many family members on annual trips, helped salvage old wrecked ships in the Great Lakes, snowmobiled the Continental Divide, Yellowstone National Park, then snow skied the Rockies, the Canadian Blue Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Appalachians and skied locally in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginian, He paddled white water rafts in raging rivers, biked numerous miles, and visited every state park in Indiana. Chuck was an adventurer in every sense of the word and was always up for a new experience. He passed away too soon on April 6, 2025.
His greatest achievement was his two children Charles Andrew Gowan (fiancé Shelley Curry) and Deborah Dawn (Gowan) McCormick. From them, he was blessed with five grandchildren - Quin (Rick) Childers, Drew Gowan, Justin Gowan, Alyssa Gowan, Austin McCormick. From them, he was again blessed with three great-grandchildren - Chase Childers, Connor Fratzke and Alena McCormick. In addition, he had many nieces and nephews, and step grandchildren that adored their Uncle/Grandpa Chuck.
He married Denise (Speck) Gowan in 1989 and together they created a loving home and life. His brother Harry P. Gowan (Trisha) was always an integral part of their lives. A new familial addition was added when they discovered they had a half-brother named Ron (Toby) Gowan to complete their family portrait.
Chuck was a Gold Card carrying member (50+ years of service) of Local 440 Union of Steamfitters, Plumbers and Service Technicians. He worked as a steamfitter for many years for BMW Constructors and he then retired as a business agent with his local.
Chuck was preceded in life by his parents Harry and Martha Gowan, his granddaughter Quindara Leigh Childers, nephews Randall Lee (Linda) Gowan and Kevin Thomas Speck.
