Charles Allen “Chip” Gray, devoted father of two, caring son, brother and uncle, passed away suddenly on July 30, 2020 at the age of 58.
Chip is remembered with love by his father, Charlie; his son, Charley (Cara); his daughter, Apple; his sister, Cheryl (Jeff); his brother, David (Lori); his many nieces and nephews; his former spouse, Amy, mother to Charley and Apple; and by countless others whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in passing by his beloved mother, Joan.
Chip was born on May 20, 1962 in Carlinville, IL, the youngest child of Charlie and Joan Gray. The family later moved to Alma, MI, where Chip met Amy, and graduated from Alma High School and Alma College. Chip received his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan and bled maize and blue his whole life. He was a dedicated automotive safety engineer, inducted into the Aptiv Hall of Fame with over 50 patents, whose inventions saved countless lives. Chip was extraordinarily generous in spirit, quick to offer a helping hand and sage advice to anyone. His love of golf was fabled throughout his entire life; he learned the game at a young age from his father and passed along that love of golf to his son at a similarly young age. Music was a lifelong love of Chip’s, a passion he shared with Apple, whose musical tastes were so good as to influence Chip’s tastes over his legendary stubbornness. Chip, along with Amy, Charley and Apple, held a zeal for exploring this country’s most incredible landmarks. He loved to impart his wit and wisdom in writings to his loved ones. He, and those writings, will be sorely missed.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, at Randall and Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville, IN. The family asks that those in attendance wear face coverings during the celebration. Dress is smart casual.
