Charlie Burkert, 90, of Fishers, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at home. He was born on December 12, 1923 to Charles and Ruth (Hines) Burkert in Indianapolis.
Charlie retired from the US Naval Avionics Facility in March of 1979 where he had worked for over 37 years in Avionics - the branch of electronics dealing with the development and use of electronics equipment in aviation and astronautics, plus all missile and weaponeer. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy during WWII, and was called back for a duty in the Korean War in 1950. Charlie was a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge, and was a former leader of Troop 212 of the Boy Scouts of America. A very creative person, Charlie enjoyed wood working.
He is survived by a son, Charles L (Marylynn) Burkert; daughters, Sandra (Robert) Owens, Judith (Russ) Hardesty, and Pamela Foster; a brother, Robert (Betty) Burkert; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eudora Burkert, two brothers and three sisters.
Services will be private.
