Dale L. VanMeter, 77, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at his home. He was born on May 14, 1936 to Clayton and Mildred (Merrill) VanMeter in Boone County, Indiana. His parents preceded him in death.
Dale was a 1954 graduate of Sheridan High School, and attended Valparaiso Technical Institute. He originally worked for Hatfield Electric, then began his own business in the late 1970s. After retiring as a manufacturer's representative and business owner in 1994, he worked for Barth Electric until his final retirement in 2004. Dale proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, was a member of Sheridan United Methodist Church, and Ulen Country Club, where he was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judith VanMeter; daughter, Sheryl (Chris) Rodgers; sons, Stephen (Kulyn) VanMeter, and Scott (Ann) VanMeter; grandchildren, Nick (Whitney), Grant, and Andrew Rodgers, Lauren, Tyler, Abbie, and Sam VanMeter; one great-grandchild, Graham Rodgers; sister, Janet (Neil) Butcher; brother- and sister-in-law, Dr. Warren and Mrs. Sue Bower; and five nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Sheridan United Methodist Church, 207 E. Second Street, in Sheridan. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville. Burial will be at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
