Daniel S. Wellman

Daniel S. "Doc" Wellman, 68, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 in hospice care at Manor Care South in Indianapolis, with his sister and her husband by his side.  He was born on Constitution Day, September 17, 1949, to Lester Eugene and Harriet Faith (Reagan) Wellman in Frankfort, Indiana.
When Dan was very young, his family moved to Noblesville where he attended school and graduated from Noblesville High School in 1968.  He then graduated from Indiana University where he became and remained an avid Hoosier basketball and football fan.  Dan taught United States history and government at Cathedral High School for many years, and also served as the official scorekeeper for the Cathedral basketball team.  During summer vacation, he enjoyed traveling the United States visiting Civil War and presidential history sites.  Dan loved dogs, watching college basketball and college & pro football, and Indy Series auto racing.  His friends attest that he was the definitive authority on old TV shows and old movies.  Dan also enjoyed reading mystery novels and books on history.  His favorite night of the year was election night.
Dan is survived by his sister, Sally Wellman (Gary Meyer) of Madison, WI; cousin, Joanne Armintrout of Summerville, PA; and many caring friends and former students.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street in Noblesville, with visitation from 12:00 noon to the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indiana University or an animal rescue or other charity of your choice.
Dan's friends and family want to thank the kind and loving staff of Manor Care of Greenwood for the care they showed Dan in his final months.
