Dennis Richmond M.D., age 70, of Noblesville, died at 11:35 pm on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on November 25, 1946 to Wade and Marilyn (Miller) Richmond in Goshen, Indiana.
Dennis grew up in Wakarusa. He attended Wakarusa High School, graduating in 1965. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America in 1963.
In 1969, Dennis graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in biology. He married Jane Baillie Hammond Richmond on August 23, 1969 in Bluffton, IN. Dennis then went on to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1973.
Dennis served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1979 as a military doctor in California, South Carolina and Florida. He was discharged with honors June 30, 1979 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Corps.
Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, Dennis returned with his family to Lafayette, serving one year as an emergency room physician at Lafayette Home Hospital before establishing his own private practice of family medicine and obstetrics, Lafayette Family Physicians in 1980. He retired from his practice in 2007.
Dennis had a passion for helping others and spending time with family, traveling, cooking and gardening. He loved the Southwest and listening to music.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Hammond Richmond, Noblesville, IN; daughter, Susan Richmond Hendricks, Noblesville, IN; son, Todd Richmond, Elm Grove, WI; grandson, Cole Hendricks, Noblesville, IN; sisters, Diane Richmond Smith, Matthews, NC and Wendy Richmond Shirer, Washington, MD; brothers, Scott Richmond, Churubusco, IN, David Richmond, Goshen, IN, James Richmond, Mishawaka, IN, Matthew Richmond, Leon, WV, and Donald Richmond, Nappanee, IN; and several nieces & nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Marilyn Richmond; and his sister, Victoria Richmond Oglesby.
A Memorial Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, in Noblesville, with a Celebration of Life at 7:00 pm. Marilyn Klaus will officiate. Following Dennis' wishes, cremation will take place.
