Donald S. Carr, 85, of Noblesville passed away peacefully on October 31, 2010. He was born in Penacook, NH on November 3, 1924. He graduated from Woodsville, NH High School in 1942 and entered the US Navy, where he served in the submarine service during WWII. He received his B.A. degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston and began a nearly 40-year career with the Fellows Gear Shaper Company/Fellows Corporation until his retirement in the mid 1980's.
Don is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Dr. David B. Carr and Dr. Sarah A. McCarty of Barboursville, WV; his brother & sister-in-law, Richard P. (Mary) Carr of Mesa, AZ; and his sister-in-law, Elaine Peverly of Kittery, ME.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie E. (Buck) Carr.
Don lived in Springfield, VT and Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ before moving to Noblesville in 1976 to become regional sales manager for Fellows Corp. There he found a community that he would come to care for very much. He was proud to say that he lived longer in Noblesville than anywhere else. He lived in North Harbor for 30 years before moving to Riverwalk Commons in 2005. He formed great friendships with 'the guys' that he shared meals with - John, Jim, Art, Ray, Bill and the many others who congregated at the table by the window. Don wanted to say a special thanks to the Trust Department staff at Community Bank and to the staff at Riverwalk Commons. He delivered Meals-On-Wheels for nearly 20 years, served as a Volunteer Transporter at Riverview Hospital, volunteered at the Transportation Museum and also served on the Noblesville Alcohol Beverage Commission for close to two decades. He loved working in his woodshop in his garage and helping his neighbors.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1685 Westfield Rd. in Noblesville, on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society of Greater Noblesville.
