Donald Stanley Holland, 78, of Westfield, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on April 20, 1937 to Charles Hubert and Alice Agusta (Brunette) Holland in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Donald graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and received Masters Degrees from the University of Waterloo and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a chemical engineer for General Motors for over 30 years.
Donald (or Uncle Donnie as he was called by most of his Canadian family) was happiest when he was surrounded by nature. He treasured his years in Tucson, Arizona, where he could view the red rocks from his home. Donald traveled to and explored several national parks, including the Grand Canyon, Glacier, and Yosemite, where he climbed Half Dome with his daughter, Alicia, and Yosemite Falls with both Alicia and Elizabeth.
He was quite the photographer, and he documented his many travels through dozens of photographs, many of which were given as gifts to his family and friends. Donald was an avid birder, and he spent countless days walking the trails at Eagle Creek Park and the shores of Lake Ontario in search of a rare bird. The greatest gift Donald gave his family was his adoration and appreciation of God's natural world.
He is survived by his daughters, Alicia Gooden (Will), & Elizabeth Kallas (Craig); grandchildren, Alexandra & Grant Gooden, and George & Blair Kallas; sisters, Laura Bringleson, Grace Bojeski, and Jackie Hillock; brother, George Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his siblings, Amy Wright, Charles Holland, and Kenneth Holland.
A memorial service will be held in Ontario, Canada at a later date. If you wish, donations may be made to Eagle Creek Park Foundation, 7840 W. 56th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46254-9706; or the Indiana Audubon Society, c/o Sally Routh, Membership Chair, 12284 Daugherty Drive, Zionsville, IN 46077.
