Donna Jean Smith

Donna Jean Smith, 75, of Muncie, went home to be with the Lord on the early afternoon of Thursday, September 22, 2016 at home. She was born on June 16, 1941 to John S. and Miriam V. (Powers) Daugherty in Ridgeville, Indiana.
Jean attended Royerton High School and earned her GED and clerical training in Frankfort, KY. She had lived in Kentucky for several years before moving back to Indiana. She was a receptionist in the Justice Administration department of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for over ten years. Prior to that she worked as an inspector for the Fruit of the Loom company. She was a very faithful and active member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Muncie, where she was the Founder of the cancer support group. She was active in the ALS and Alzheimer's support groups and was a member of the Avondale Sympathy Club. Jean was an excellent cook, and enjoyed crafting, gardening and going to church, but she was happiest when she could spend time with her family, whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Dortha J. (fiancé, Dean Russell) Meadows; son, Randy Smith; step-son, Chuck (Donna) Russell; two brothers, John C. (Pat) Daugherty and D. Wayne (Penny) Daugherty; her twin sister, J. Eileen Harrell; sister, Jacqueline (John) Hovis; daughter-in-law, Stacy Smith; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest C. Smith who passed away in February 2015; a son, John C. Smith; and two sisters, Alice Grimes and Marilyn Branscum.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 2204 S. Macedonia Ave in Muncie, with Pastor Ron Elam officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the church. Burial will be at Elm Ridge Memorial Park in Muncie.
