Dorothy (Sullivan) Burkett, 93, of Noblesville, passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side, on August 17, 2012. She was born in Jefferson City, MO on January 30, 1919 to John L. and Mary Catherine (Lennartz) Sullivan, while her father was serving as Secretary of State of Missouri.
Dorothy graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO, and attended business school in Kansas City, MO. She had worked at McGee Insurance in Kansas City; and had been Orville Redenbacher's personal assistant when she resided in Valparaiso, IN. She loved the Indiana Pacers, reading, playing bridge and spending time with her family. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and their Altar Rosary Society in Noblesville; and formerly a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Valparaiso, IN.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Debbie) Burkett, Jr. of Carmel, IN, Thomas (Katy) Burkett of Columbia, MO and Peggy (Bob) Schultz of Boca Raton, FL; her grandchildren, Meghan (Josh) Reid, Keegan Burkett, Connor Burkett and Robert Burkett III; her great-granddaughter, Emma Reid; and several nieces & nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert Burkett, Sr., a World War II veteran and an engineer with Standard Oil; and siblings, John Sullivan, Catherine Allen, Helen Wiederhold, James Sullivan & Genevieve Sullivan.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Monday, August 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Noblesville, with additional visitation at the church beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City, IN.
