Dorothy Green Rudy, 95, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville. She was the daughter of Viola Havens Green and Oscar Roe Green, born on September 9, 1917 in Fleming County, KY. She graduated from Garth High School and Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY. She worked as a secretary at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in Louisville, KY, and later as a substitute teacher.
She had been married to A.B. Rudy for 61 years when he died in 2001. Her parents, brother Tom Green, and sister Carol Green also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Rudy was a loving, gracious homemaker and an enthusiastic volunteer. She volunteered as a youth tutor at School 1 in Indianapolis, and at Hinkle Creek School in Noblesville. She volunteered in the Noblesville Illiteracy Program, teaching adults to read one-on-one. As a Pink Lady volunteer at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, she served more than 2000 hours at the Emergency Room Information Desk. She was active in the American Field Service, serving on the family procurement committee for international students in Indiana. During winters in Naples, FL, she volunteered at Youth Haven, a home for abused children.
Mrs. Rudy was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Noblesville, and a Deaconess at Prentice Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis. She was a member of Harbour Trees Golf Club, Riverview Hospital Auxiliary, Sigma Kappa Sorority, and Alpha Epsilon Latreian Club, serving as its president in 1974-75. She was a proud Kentucky Colonel, and an avid sports fan. She spent many football seasons on "the hill" at Purdue games.
She is survived by two sons, A.B. (Dr. Mary) Rudy Jr., and Thomas Eric Rudy of Indianapolis, a daughter Patricia Rudy (George) Fleet of Edina, MN, and a sister, Joanne Clayton of Grand Rapids, MI. She adored her grandchildren: Sarah (Josh) Kaminker, San Francisco, CA; Joe (Tricia) Rudy, Noblesville, IN; Mike (Courtney) Rudy, Carmel, IN; Michelle (Zach) Mitchell, Avon, IN; Jenna (Lane) Lowenstein, Milwaukee, WI. She loved to laugh with her nine great-grandchildren: Hannah and Mira Kaminker; Max and Aubrey Rudy; Elliott, Evan and Noah Rudy; Jonah and Silas Mitchell. She had many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to a favorite charity.
Calling will be from 5-7 PM on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Randall & Roberts Mortuary, 1150 Logan Street, Noblesville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 24, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 1207 Conner Street, Noblesville. Rev. Eric Gale and Seasons Hospice Pastor Neil Schaefer will officiate. Burial will be in Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville.
