Dr. Ronald Eugene Chance

Dr. Ronald Eugene Chance, 81, of Westfield, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Magnolia Springs Senior Living at Bridgewater in Carmel, and has entered into life everlasting with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ronald was born on January 17, 1934 to Maurice Donald Chance and Mozelle (Chance) Carson in Lapeer, Michigan.
He was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County who graduated from Westfield High School in 1952. Ronald earned 4 degrees from Purdue University: A Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1956; a Master's in Animal Nutrition in 1959; a Doctorate in Biochemistry in 1962; and an Honorary Doctorate in 1999 from the Department of Biochemistry. He was a member of Kappa Delta Rho social fraternity. Dr. Chance was a Lilly Research Fellow with Eli Lilly and Co. in Indianapolis, the latest appointment in a 36-year tenure which began as a senior scientist in 1963. Chance made major contributions to the scientific understanding of Insulin Biochemistry and Therapeutics, and revolutionized the treatment of Diabetes. He published widely in scientific and medical journals, and held 9 patents on Insulin and Insulin related technology.
Ron is survived by his loving wife and family. He was married 53 years to Carolyn Allen Chance. His son, David Maurice Chance resides in Boone County with his family; wife, Jill (Spidel) Chance, and daughters, Nicole & Jenna Chance. Ron's daughter, Christine (Chance) Heald, resides in Fishers with her family; husband, Brett Heald, and daughter, Andrea Heald.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville. Services will follow at 11:30 am on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Westfield.
