Edward Louis "Eddie" Mode

Edward Louis "Eddie" Mode passed through death into life on February 23, 2018 at Riverview Health. He was born October 6, 1927 to George and Ellen (Trout) Mode of Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Eddie's family moved from Jeffersonville to Muncie in 1937 after the great flood. He met and married his wife, Joan, in Muncie.  Eddie entered the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served honorably in two wars.  He served as a Navy Seabee attached to Marine Air Group 31, 1st Division aboard the USS Florence Nightingale in World War II.  Eddie went to Okinawa where he received the Presidential Citation Award for services performed on that island.  He also served aboard the USS Missouri as a fireman involved in firing one of the huge guns in the Korean War.
After returning to the U.S., Eddie moved his family to Cocoa Beach, Florida where he operated three restaurants.  He knew most of the seven original astronauts.  Eddie moved to Las Vegas from Cocoa Beach where he lived for 20 years. In Las Vegas, he operated a sports information service.  Eddie's final move brought him to Noblesville in 1996.  That same year, he opened Logan Street Cafe, which later moved and became his signature restaurant called Eddie's Corner Café.  Eddie made many friends in Noblesville as a part of this restaurant adventure.
He has always been a dog lover and sports enthusiast. Eddie's later life passion included traveling to and serving children and friends in the country of Nicaragua. In the past 20 years, he made over 50 trips to that country and supported many individuals.  Eddie was a member of the VFW and the Navy club.  He also earned his private pilot's license.
Eddie is survived by his children, Daniel Mode, Beverly Boaz (Marc Tamm), Sandra Ehrgott (Doug), Marc Mode, Thomas Mode (Dawn), Samuel Carroll and Charles Burnham; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Sandy II.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his siblings, Martha Jane, Mary Lee, Robert and Donald; and the mother of his children, Violet Joan.
