Edward Schmidt

Edward S. Schmidt, 100, formerly of Willow Grove and Hatboro, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013. He was born January 17, 1913, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John and Elizabeth (Kolzum) Schmidt.
He was the widower of A. Rita Schmidt, his wife of 62 years, who passed away on July 29, 2006. Six brothers and sisters predeceased him. He is survived by two sons, Edward R. Schmidt of Fishers, and David R. Schmidt of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; five grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Schmidt, Chicago, Illinois, Todd E. Schmidt, M.D., Zionsville, Michael J. Schmidt, South Bend, Andrew R. Schmidt, Greenwich, Connecticut, and Laura E. Schmidt, Mt. Pleasant, SC; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his devoted caregiver, LaDaun C. Nelson.
He retired in 1978 as Vice President & Secretary of Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Co. in Philadelphia. He was a founding Trustee and the first Administrator of the Pennsylvania Land Title Institute. The Pennsylvania Land Title Association twice honored his service to the land title industry, recognizing him as an "honorary life member" in 1996, and awarding him its Distinguished Service Award in 2003. He actively served the American Land Title Association, where he was also honored as a "Lifetime Member." A veteran, he served as a First Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He was a member of Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. David Catholic Church, Willow Grove, PA, where he was a member for 54 years, on Friday, July 26, 2013, at 11:00 am, with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Indiana University Foundation for the vonDeilen-Curtis Fellowship in Pediatric Plastic Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine (37MSUR062) and mailed to the IU School of Medicine, c/o IU Foundation, P.O. Box 660245 Indianapolis, IN 46266-0245. Please indicate in memory of Edward S. Schmidt on your gift.
