Edwin James Diebolt, 84, Fishers, formerly of Muncie, died Saturday, October 9, 2010. He was born October 4, 1926 in Owosso, Michigan, to Oliver and Pauline (Wieber) Diebolt.
Ed was a 1944 graduate of St. Paul's Catholic School and entered the U.S. Army. He was a proud member of General Douglas MacArthur's Honor Guard, an elite group of soldiers chosen for the General. He served General MacArthur in Tokyo, Japan before returning home in 1946. In 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Carmody.
He was employed at Ball Corporation in Muncie for 25 years, before retiring in 1988. He worked in Research and Development in the Plastics Division and was awarded two patents from the U.S. Patent Office. Ed was a member of St. Louis deMontfort Catholic Church, General MacArthur's Honor Guard Association, B.P.O.E. #245 (Muncie), American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed all sports, working in the yard, the company of his dogs and sitting in his swing on a warm, summer day. He will be missed by his loving family.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, M. Richard Diebolt, Loretta Hasselback, Norbert Diebolt, Bernice Lamos, Harold Diebolt, Ralph Diebolt and Jack Diebolt.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia; sons, Douglas James Diebolt of Lafayette, IN and Daniel Thomas Diebolt (Janice) of Carmel, IN; daughter, Ann Elizabeth Diebolt of Fishers, IN; grandchildren, Abigail Claire Diebolt of Delphi, IN, Jason Daniel Diebolt & Jenna Claire Diebolt both of Carmel, IN, Maria Virginia Diebolt of Fishers, IN; and several nieces & nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 10:30AM at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist Catholic Church in Fishers. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday, October 12, 1010 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM, with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00PM. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Entombment will be at 3:00PM on Wednesday at Elm Ridge Memorial Park in Muncie, IN.
