Elizabeth Elsie Cox, 87, of Noblesville, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. She was born on January 7, 1926 to George and Frances (Pacholec) Colwell in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth served as a nurse's aide for Heritage House and performed private duty nursing before retiring. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shelbyville, IN. She was also a member of St. Anne's Altar Society and was an Eucharistic Minister. Elizabeth attended Lake Ariel highschool, and worked in defense plants in New York during WWII. She was a former member of Horizon and Handicapped Travel Clubs. She was also an active volunteer at Heritage House Manor and Havan Children's Center. She owned and operated with her husband, The Singer Sewing Machine franchise in Shelbyville, IN for 10 years.She was an assistant Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout den leader at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was an active member and volunteer of the United Senior Action. Elizabeth and her husband, Bob were foster parents for several years.
She is survived by sons, USAF (Ret) Col. Robert L. (Louise) Cox Jr., and Stephen A. (Suzan) Cox; daughters, Frances E. Ice, and Mary E.(Charles) Boden; brother, Charles Colwell; sisters, Claire Arnett, Mildred Mazietis, and Shirley (John) Edwards; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert L. Cox Sr.; brothers, George Colwell, Thomas Colwell, Clarence Colwell, and John Colwell; sister, Dorothy Wolf; and a brother and sister that died in infancy.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 10, 2013, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 East 191st Street, in Noblesville, with Rev. Tom Metzger officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, June 9, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm with a Rosary service at 7:30 pm at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street, Noblesville. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
