Elizabeth "Betty " Kuich, 87, of Noblesville, died on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Harbour Manor Care Center in Noblesville, Indiana. She was born on May 24, 1928 to Edward Smith and Una (Simon) Walters in Munising, Michigan. She was the fourth of four children, her brother William Walters, and sister , Phyllis (Walters) Larson, preceded her in death.
Betty was raised in Munising, Michigan and graduated from William G. Mather High School in 1946, where she was active in theatrical productions, dancing, singing and played the trumpet in the high school band. She was often called the "Shirley Temple" of Munising. She went on to attend Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, where she met her husband, Ed. They married on September 17, 1949.
They lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, while Ed finished college, then returned to Menominee, Michigan to raise their children-Cindy, Tom and Betsy. Betty loved being a mom. She enjoyed school field trips, and Brownie Girl Scouts, and took part in the school PTA. She was known as "mom" to many children over the years, including Frances ( Buckman) Kingsley and Robert Buckman.
She was active in the Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener, and always had hundreds of Regal Lilies grace her back yard. She loved the water, swimming, and fishing off the Menominee pier with her mom. Betty was also a gifted vocalist, and was often the chosen soloist for the choir of the First Presbyterian Church in Menominee, where she was a long time member. One of her favorite songs was "The Lord's Prayer." She sang it beautifully.
Betty and Ed moved to Ann Arbor in 1984, and after his death in 1990, she completed a CNA program to become a Home Health Aide. She helped care for many people over the years, and always went above and beyond in her care of others. She loved making everyone feel special.
After her daughter, Cindy, died in 2003, she moved to Noblesville so she could enjoy her grandchildren, Megan and Stephen. They were the light of her life! She thoroughly enjoyed all their school activities, and would attend soccer games, rain or shine, and never missed a dance competition or show choir performance. She loved dressing up on Halloween, teaching neighbor children and friends a song or two on the piano, and especially enjoyed any opportunity she had to attend church. She will be so greatly missed by all.
She is survived by daughter, Betsy (Paul) Rosiek of Noblesville, IN; son, Tom (Andrea) Kuich of Springfield, MO; two grandchildren, Megan Rosiek and Stephen Rosiek, both of Noblesville, IN; and brother, Ted Walters of Georgia.
