Emil M. Spencer, 92, of Carmel, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on November 7, 1924 and raised on a farm in Switz City, Indiana. His parents Joseph Daniel and Elizabeth (McClarren) Spencer precede him in death. Emil proudly served his country with the Army Air Force and was a WWII veteran, having been a POW in Germany for 11 months. For his service to his country, he was awarded a Purple Heart, a World War II Victory Medal, an American Theater Ribbon, and four Battle Stars. He was a graduate of University of Illinois, where he had been President of his Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity; and retired from the agricultural sales industry after more than 35 years. He attended Carmel United Methodist Church, and enjoyed riding his bicycle, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his three sons, Kendall L (Sylvia) Spencer, Keith M (Susie) Spencer and Kyle E (Lori) Spencer; brother, Plato (Betty) Spencer; grandchildren, Rachel (Brian) Smith, Rebecca (Ben) Davis, Stephen (Samantha) Spencer, Matthew (Audrey) Spencer, Mark Spencer, Nicole (Tim) Six and Carrie (Nathan) Stephens; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia A. Spencer, who passed away in 2005. Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am prior to the service. Rev. Greg McGarvey will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
