George Charles Elliott, 73, passed away Tuesday, January 7th, peacefully at his home he shared with his wife Marian Elliott, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. George was born April 2, 1940 in Indianapolis to George Burger and Ruth Helen (Bell) Elliott.
An adventurous, self-taught artist drawn to nature, animals, travels & automobiles, George loved spending time expressing himself through his gift of creativity. He had a studio in Noblesville, White River Studio, and one at his house in Sedona, AZ.
His interests included nature and the outdoors, people, animals, hiking, music, and the ISO. He especially enjoyed orangutans and spent time in Borneo studying, befriending & researching them. George painted with four close artist friends for over 20 years every Tuesday at White River Studio, and was a season-ticket holder with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for over 25 years. Anyone who knew George loved him for his kind heart, toothy laugh and his gentle giant spirit. He shared his love of the world through his bright, colorful interpretations of nature, people and the world around him.
Survivors include wife, Marian Elliott; sister, Susanne (Jack) Sogard; children, John (Karen Clark), Molli (Russell Cameron), Jane (Eric Nichols), David (Malinda Weninger), Nicole Kelker (Craig) and Chris Vyverberg; grandchildren, George, Katie, Jessica, Cavan, Clara, Olivia, Ava, Audra, Matthew, James, William and Charles; two nephews, Mike Sogard (Linda Paine) and Chris Sogard (Laura Bailey), and their children, Lauren, Emily, Caroline, Abigail & Annabelle. George was much loved by Marian's family in Decatur, Indiana.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at Randall & Roberts, 1150 Logan Street in Noblesville. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be welcome to either the International Orangutan Center at the Indianapolis Zoo; or, to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
