George H. Rhea, 99, of Noblesville, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville. He was born on May 7, 1920 to Benjamin and Amanda (Harris) Rhea in Pennington Gap, Virginia.
George proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in Company B 27th Infantry. He served in Pearl Harbor, Luzon, Guadalcanal, the Northern Solomons, and Manila. George was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medals with four bronze battle stars, the American Defense Service Medal with one bronze service star, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze service star.
For many years, he worked for Warner Commercial Body in Noblesville, Monroe Patterson Truck Body in Mount Comfort, Indiana, and previously was a coal miner in Virginia. George was a member of Noblesville Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, singing, gardening, bus trips, vacations with his family, and walking with his wife, Georgia.
He is survived by his son, Dale W. (Sandy) Rhea; daughter, Marcia (Ed) Kackley; grandchildren, Cassia (Jon) Allee, Amanda (Dominic) Moes, Jordan (Wendy) Rhea; great-grandchildren, Josiah and Grace Allee, Christian, Olivia, and Garrett Moes, Mason, Chad, Fred, Georgia, Gideon, Reuben, and June Rhea; as well as many nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son, Tony Allen Rhea; and his siblings, Oscar Rhea, Macy Rhea Roop, Fayette Haynes and Otto Haynes. His beloved wife, Georgia, passed away one week prior to George's passing.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street in Noblesville, with Pastor Seth Leeman officiating. Visitation will be from noon to the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
