Gilbert “Gil” C. Wannemuehler, 85, of Noblesville, Indiana passed away November 12, 2023, at Riverview Health Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Evansville, Indiana in 1938 to Theodore and Clara (Schenk) Wannemuehler. He graduated from Mater Dei Catholic High School and the University of Evansville. 

A lifelong accountant, Gil was a comptroller and CFO for George Ryan Construction, Tri State Steel Erection and JE Shekell Inc. Upon his retirement, Gil served as a volunteer accountant for the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Evansville chapter for 14 years. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.

Gil is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita (nee Joest) of Noblesville; his two sons, Timothy (Rhonda) Wannemuehler of Vestavia, Alabama, and Gregory (Mireille) Wannemuehler of Fishers, Indiana; a daughter, Amy (Timothy) Dowell of St. Charles, Missouri; a sister, Ruth (Wannemuehler) Weekley of Mogadore, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many close nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, Gil was predeceased by his brother, Leroy Wannemuehler; and sisters, Delores Wannemuehler, Sr. Mildred Wannemuehler OSB, and Rosalie Miller.

A memorial Mass to celebrate Gil’s life will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Road, Evansville, Indiana 47715 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held immediately following at the church.

A private burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date. 

To honor him, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 809 N. Lafayette Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47711.
