Dr. Gordiano F. Aganad, 74, of Noblesville, IN, formerly of Schiller Park, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. He was born on May 10, 1938 to Vicente and Florencia Aganad in the Philippines.
Dr. Aganad studied at Far Eastern University in the Philippines and came to the United States in 1962. For over 40 years he worked as a physician in Schiller Park, IL and at Gottlieb Hospital in Melrose Park, IL. He was a member of St. Beatrice Catholic Church. He retired to Ewa Beach, Hawaii for 6 years. He was a member of the Cabugao Sons and Daughters Club of Hawaii. He also took up the hobby of stained glass. His beautiful artwork can be seen in the homes of many of his family and friends. In 2010 he moved to Noblesville, IN to be near his daughter, Kathy, and his newest grandson Paxton Gordiano.
Dr. Aganad was known to many as "Doc" or "Dr. Aggie". He was also known as the "Filipino Godfather" of Chicago because he helped bring others to the states. He assisted many in finding jobs, places to live, and even took in some to stay in his own home. Always giving, he even set up a scholarship fund in his hometown that helped many further their education.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Teri (Ted) Rachwal, Dr. Janet Aganad, & Kathryn (Brent) Dow; son, Vincent (Leigh) Aganad; grandchildren, Sean Aquino, Cole, Jillian & Amelia Aganad, and Lilly & Paxton Gordiano Dow; brother, Anacleto (Caridad) Advincula
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Augustina.
Services will be held at St. Beatrice Catholic Church in Schiller Park, IL on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Visitation will begin at 1 pm CST with mass at 2 pm CST.
