Harold D. McVey, 90, of Noblesville, passed away at home on Sunday, September 1, 2013 after fighting a courageous battle against throat cancer for the past year. He was born on January 17, 1923 to Clarence and Cora (Carpenter) McVey in Corbin, Kentucky.
Harold married Gertrude Bergom on January 25, 1947 in Noblesville, Indiana. Survivors include one daughter, Rita McVey of Noblesville; one brother, Lloyd McVey, of Fort Mitchell, KY; two sisters, Wanda Webb of Akron, OH; and Sandra Ludwig of Clemmons, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 59+ years, Gertrude Helene McVey; and a brother, R. C. McVey.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, receiving a Purple Heart for being wounded twice while serving with Darby's Rangers during WWII. He retired from Firestone Industrial Products after working there for 43 years. He was a lifetime member of Noblesville American Legion Post #45.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan Street, in Noblesville. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
