Harold E. Nicholson, 89, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. He was born on December 2, 1927 to Perry F. and Mattie Belle (Phillips) Nicholson in Scott County, Indiana. At a young age, Harold moved with his family to Sheridan, where he resided until entering Riverwalk Village in 2013.
Harold played basketball and was president of his senior class (Class of 1946) at Sheridan High School. He kept in touch with his classmates and organized many reunions.
Harold began working at Delco Remy in Anderson in 1950, was called to serve in the U.S. Army shortly thereafter, and then returned to work at Delco Remy until retirement in 1986.
Harold was an active member of Sheridan United Methodist Church for many years. He was well known for his volunteer work and humanitarian deeds in the community, for which he received an Outstanding Alumnus Award from Sheridan Community Schools.
Harold was a kind and loving caregiver for many years. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Harold, affectionately called Shorty by his family and friends, was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Harlan, and Perry Jr. Nicholson; and by sisters, Helen Harbaugh, Mary Cupp, and Marie Durr. He is survived by 22 nieces and nephews; and many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Sheridan First United Methodist Church, 207 East Second Street in Sheridan, with visitation from 11:00 am to the time of service. Pastor Carol Fritz will officiate. Burial will be at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
Harold's family has entrusted his care to Randall & Roberts Funeral Homes in Noblesville.
