Helen Louise Ellison, 78, of Westfield, passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Thursday, April 18, 2024. She was born on May 29, 1945 to Robert and Irene (Snell) Young in Frankfort, Indiana.
Helen lived many decades with crippling arthritis and lung disease, but she always had a twinkle in her eye. She had the spirit of a woman that was always ready to get out, go and do, and to travel anywhere, anytime with friends and family. She never complained about her ailments and never let them stop her from living a very happy life.
Helen lived the majority of her life in Galveston, Indiana, and that was always home to her. She and Butch lived and raised their children in "the old green house" on the edge of town. Helen worked hard at many jobs in her life, but mainly as a waitress at several local restaurants. She never made much money but she and Butch did without to make sure their children never did. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Helen is survived by her children, Robert Ellison (Anne Marie Bell), Sheila Harris (Allen), and James Ellison (Melissa); grandchildren, Gregory, Tina, Davis, Emma, Wesley, Nathan and Cameron; best life-long friend, Margie DeCosta; and George & Vickie Wininger, who gave Helen great love and support after Butch passed away.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight "Butch" Ellison; and her siblings, Pauline Young, Curtis Young, Janet Longfellow, and Charlie Young.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the American Legion of Noblesville, 273 South 8th Street, in Noblesville.
