Ida Susan Sherk Heier Chenoweth, 76, of Carmel, Indiana passed into Heaven on December 24, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital Carmel. She was born on December 29, 1942 in South Bend, Indiana to Walter and Lillie (Majors) Sherk, who both preceded her in death.
Susan was a 1960 graduate of Bremen High School in Bremen, Indiana. She was involved in Girls Athletic Association and a baton twirler. On August 31, 1963, Susan married Jeffery Heier. They divorced in 1991. Susan married Jerry Chenoweth on December 27, 1997 and they divorced in 2014. Susan graduated from Indiana State University in 1964 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. She went on to get her Master’s in Education from St. Francis College in 1969.
Susan was a beloved teacher to many of her students over the years. She taught Home Economics in Hamilton, Indiana at Hamilton High School from 1965-1967 and in Angola, Indiana at Angola High School from 1968 to 1977. She also taught Home Economic in Muncie, Indiana at Delta High School from 1977-1979, and in North Vernon, Indiana she taught health at Jennings County High School from 1979-1985. Susan went on to teach Home Economic at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana in 1989 and retired from teaching in 1999.
Susan had many passions throughout her life. She loved to teach, sew, cook and bake. She also was an award winning seamstress, quilter, and cross-stitcher. Susan had many collections some included P.Buckley Moss prints, Boyds Bear pins, cookbooks, Santa’s, and Longenberger baskets. Her greatest passion was to spend time with her grandchildren baking cookies, making pizza, and watching them in their various sporting events! Her wish was to see them all get married and to know her great grandchildren.
Susan is survived by her children, Todd Heier of Fishers, Indiana and Amy Jo (Heier) Harris (Ken) of Westfield, Indiana. Susan was known by her 8 grandchildren as Susu and they loved her dearly. Susu’s grandchildren are Matasha Harris of Noblesville, Indiana; Jacob Harris of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; Keith Harris of Kokomo, Indiana; Nicholas Harris of Muncie, Indiana; Jerilyn Heier of Sheridan, Indiana; Kennedy Harris of Indianapolis, Indiana; Tayler Harris of New Castle, Indiana; and Justin Heier of Avon, Indiana. In 2017, our beloved Susu became a Great-Susu with the arrival of her first of 4 grandbabies: Bradley Ryan Wayne Harris, Scarlett Jo Harris, Theodore Brian Harris, and Melody Faye Harris. Susan was an Aunt to 9 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Barbra Jo Sherk Shell of Bremen.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday January 18, 2020 with visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and a memorial service at 4:00 pm at Randall and Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road in Noblesville, Indiana. Reverend Thomas Beatley will officiate.
