James J. Flora Jr., 71, of Fishers (formerly of Crown Point, IN), passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at home. He was born on November 20, 1946 to James J. and Edith (Saxton) Flora Sr in Gary, Indiana. James grew up in Merrillville, IN, graduating from Merrillville High School in 1965. He lived most of his life in Crown Point, IN.
James received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue University, in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He was an engineering consultant and partner with R.W. Armstrong for over 35 years. He was a longtime member of ASCE. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, including the national parks. His hobbies included gardening and genealogy.
He is survived by his wife, Karen (Everhardt) Flora; son, James J. (Joy) Flora III; daughter, Stephanie Kite; sister, Alice (Don) Smedstad; four grandchildren, Jack & Kate Flora and Sarah & Matthew Kite; and several nieces & nephews.
Services were private.
The family entrusted cremation to Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary.
