James “Jim” “Jimmy” Eric Slaughter, 40, of Greenfield passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on May 31, 1982 to James and Marilyn (McDonough) Slaughter in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jimmy loved to move and was most alive when engaging in hands on activities such as riding motorcycles, shooting guns, bike riding, boating, listening to music or enjoying the outdoors. Jimmy held a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Ball State University. Consistent with his hands on approach to life, he worked as a mechanic for most of his career. Jimmy was also playful and had the biggest twinkle in his eyes and smile on his face when he was playing pranks, joking around or making mischief. He had a kind and generous heart and never hesitated to help anyone in need whether it was family, friends or even a stranger. His friends described him as the type of person “willing to give the shirt off his back,” and one friend added, “if it would help someone out for even 5 minutes.”
Jimmy was an animal lover. Besides having various household pets over the years, he could be found on his lunch break feeding the geese by the pond or befriending a neighborhood racoon.
Jimmy’s kind and generous heart continues to live on even after his death, as he was an organ donor and able to donate his veins, corneas, lower bone and his big, big heart to help others to have a better life.
He is survived by his parents; sister, Jamie Slaughter; girlfriend, Cassandra Booker; aunts and uncles, John (Marilyn) McDonough, John Kopatz, Ruthie (Chuck) Ezell and Cindy Slaughter; and his cousins, Corey Kopatz, Katie Lansel, Cara Noble, John McDonough III, and Michael Yant.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Maureen Kopatz, and uncle, John Slaughter.
Jimmy’s celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Randall and Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a service starting at 4:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Hancock County Humane Society or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
