James Teska

James A. 'Jim' Teska, 73, Fishers, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Carmel St. Vincent Hospital. He was born July 4, 1934 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Anona (Haberkorn) and PT Teska.
Jim was a special education professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois from 1973 until his retirement in 1999.
He earned his Bachelor's degree from LSU, his Master's degree from University of Oklahoma, and his PhD from University of Illinois. He was an avid reader and bird-watcher, loved to fish and loved sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He was on the Board of Directors of Archway Schools, founded the SIU Headstart Program, and was one of the founders of the Brehm Prep School.
Jim is survived by wife, Betty Jean (Murfett) Teska of Fishers; daughters, Liana L. (& Pete) Kowalzik of Crozet, VA, and Adina A. (& Mark Pfeiffer) Teska of Indianapolis; son, Alan A. (& Ha-Yee) Teska of Carbondale, IL; daughter, Jennifer J. (& Randy) Edmonds of Fishers; brother, John (& Carol) Teska of Wautoma, WI; grandchildren, Thalia, Ilia, Cambria & John Kowalzik, Kaitlin & Amanda Pfeiffer, Sam, Alyssa & Megan Edmonds; niece, Janet Venum; nephews, Tom (& Alyssa) Teska, and Andy (& Lynn) Teska; great-nephews, Ben & Chris Veum; and great-niece & nephews, Maisie, Nickolas & Alexander Teska.
Services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, with Rev. Stanley R. Sutton officiating. Friends may call Saturday, February 2, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
