Jane Marie Parlon Freistroffer Thieme, 70, of Carmel, IN passed away at home on December 4, 2013. She and her twin sister were born on January 17, 1943 to Charles S. and Mary Ann Parlon Freistroffer in Chicago, Illinois.
She remained in Chicago until her teen-aged years when the family moved to New Richmond, IN where she attended Coal Creek Central High School until the last semester of her senior year. The family then moved to Lafayette where she graduated from Jefferson High School. She was employed at Purdue University until her marriage to Joseph Thomas Thieme on May 30, 1964. Her husband was an officer in the Army and they were assigned to several military bases throughout the world. In 1972 her husband left the Army and the family returned to Lafayette. She attended Purdue, and she had a lengthy career in insurance and real estate. She retired from Coldwell Banker The Shook Agency in 2004. She was a member of the Regional, State, and National Boards of Realtors, and served on the board of the Lafayette Board of Realtors. She was a long-term member of St. Boniface Church in Lafayette. She also was a reader for IRIS, a service which reads the local newspaper into the phone for those who have lost their eyesight. She and her husband were supporters of the Lafayette Symphony and the Indianapolis Symphony. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau philanthropic sorority, having held every office including two terms as President. They spent as much time as possible in South Haven, MI, where all of the family and extended family enjoyed being.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Joseph Thieme; daughters, Jennie (Jerome) LaReau of Carmel, IN, and Mary Josephine (Andreas) Sashegyi of Indianapolis, IN; son, Thomas (Shelly) Thieme also of Carmel, IN; her grandchildren, who were the loves of her life, Nicholas, Andrew and Zachary Thieme, Katherine (Katie) LaReau, all of Carmel, IN and Thomas Sashegyi of Indianapolis; sisters, Ann (Raymond) Andrew of Gainesville, FL, Joan Early of Wheeling, IL, and her twin sister, Lynn (Frank) Altepeter of West Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews. Her vivacious personality and unsurpassed story-telling abilities will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 11441 Hague Road in Fishers, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am until the time of service. Father John Kiefer will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donors' preferred charity.
