Jean Hunt was born on September 7, 1923. She was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Jean, the matriarch of the Hunt, Sayre, and Todd families, passed away quietly in her sleep on June 4, 2024. She joins her husband of 63 years, John T. Hunt, parents, Harry D. and Catherine Sayre, her brother, John Sayre, and her sister, Rosemary Todd in heaven. She will be remembered by her children and their spouses, David and Theresa Hunt, Timothy and Laurie Hunt, Julianne and Stephen Nichols, and Patrick and Janet Hunt.
Jean passed on her love of learning to her children, nieces, and nephews as well as to all her eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. While caring for her own family as well as for her extended family and teaching school, Jean earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees by attending night classes at the University of Cincinnati. She touched many lives as an educator and guidance counselor, retiring from U.C.’s University College as the Assistant Dean for Student Services. Jean was truly a Bearcat fan and attended many games over the years.
Jean never missed a birthday or an anniversary and would always send beautiful hand-made cards. Jean had a curious mind and a keen intellect. Jean was an avid reader and in her retirement years she taught humor classes and was active in implementing a bereavement support group with fellow church members at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Jean was also proud to be a participant and a donor in the 90+ Program for comprehensive longevity studies at the University of California Irvine.
Jean was always thinking of others and will be sorely missed. Jean’s ashes will be interred with her husband in Cincinnati on a date yet to be determined. Last September 2023, she was surrounded by her family from across the United States to celebrate her 100th birthday. The family is very thankful that so many who loved Jean were able to attend.
