Jeffrey Alan Day, 48, of Fishers, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at his home. He was born on April 24, 1976, in Bedford, Indiana. He battled stage IV colon cancer for nearly five years with grace and a positive outlook on life.
Jeff was a naturally gifted multi-instrumentalist, popular in venues across Central Indiana. Under the alter ego “Wild Dale,” he founded the Bloomington band Stone Carnival in the 1990s along with his brother and best friends. Thereafter, he became popular in the Indy area as a solo artist and in several local bands. He was especially proud of his original music, which lives on at Spotify and other major streaming services.
He was an IU Hoosier fan from birth, though his loyalties were later divided when he married into a Purdue Boiler family. Jeff never wavered in his love for the Colts, and he particularly treasured the special phone call and signed jersey he received in 2021 from Peyton Manning, who encouraged him in his fight against cancer. This unique knack for finding himself near his icons in music and sports was a consistent theme retold in the stories of his encounters with Stevie Wonder, Larry Bird, Jackson Browne, John Sebastian, and many others.
Jeff was admired for his music and many talents but was loved for his spirit. Stories abound of his kindness to strangers, his cringeworthy dad jokes, and his unguarded passion for life and love, especially with “his girls.” He was authentically humble to the core, and generous with his gifts. He shared his deep faith in Jesus Christ openly and used his affliction as a witness until the end. Jeff will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica Day; father, Joseph Day (Robin); mother, Judith Stout; daughters, Julia Day and Carolyn Day; siblings, Andy (Jennifer) Day, Jon (Maureen) Day, Sarah (Jason) Mathis, Jennifer (Justin) Inman, Josh (Laura) Anderson, and Elizabeth (Dre) Ivey; thirteen nieces and nephews; and countless friends and fans.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, with services at 12:00 pm, on Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 681405, Indianapolis, IN 46268-1405 (https://www.cancer.org/about-us/local/indiana.html).
