Joe E. Sutton

Joe E. Sutton, lifelong resident of Fishers and Noblesville, Indiana, and president of his senior class at Fishers High School (Class of 1944) died on Sunday, November 5, 2017.  He was 91 years old.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn (Hocker) Sutton; children, David Sutton of Broad Ripple, IN, Shelly Sutton (Jeff Conrad) of Carmel, IN, Andy Sutton (Carol Perez Sutton) of Houston, TX, and John Sutton of Sheridan, WY; as well as grandchildren, Kylie Conrad, Lily Conrad, Isaac Sutton, Helena Sutton, Noah Sutton and Owen Sutton.
Joe was the son of the late Floyd Sutton and Ella (Guilkey) Sutton.  Two brothers, Marion Sutton and Jerry Sutton; and one son, Dennis Sutton, predeceased him.
In addition to farming land on the Sutton homestead in Fishers, Joe served in the United States Army (1956-1958) and operated a children's clothing store, Sutton's Tynee Nook, a thriving business on the Noblesville courthouse square, for 42 years.
His standard answer to how he was doing--terrible--threw some people, but it was the response family and friends expected.  They also came to expect some of the unique hats he was known to nonchalantly wear.  Joe didn't always get a reaction from them, but he enjoyed finding new and interesting hats.
Joe had many interests  He played basketball for Fishers High School at a time when it took every boy in the class to form a team, and enjoyed following local high school teams and Indiana college teams the rest of his life.  Growing up, he also shot pool and was an avid ping pong player.  Joe also held a pilot's license and was a crop duster in the 1940s, and rode motorcycles throughout much of his life.
Joe was known for spending weekends garage sailing (something which is considered a family tradition).  Friends often gave him lists of what they thought were impossible to find items; he would come back smiling, sometimes the next day, with the treasure (and many other treasures).  Other interests include reading thrillers, playing euchre and enjoying his 'coffee group' in Noblesville where he has been meeting with friends for over a decade.  Joe was devoted to his family, many of whom were able to be with him during his final days.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Forest Park Inn, 701 Cicero Road, in Noblesville.
Randall & Roberts Funeral Homes has been entrusted with his care.
