John Blazer, 88, of Noblesville, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at his home. He was born on January 1, 1926 to Charles Blazer and Elizabeth (Smith) Blazer (later Queen) in Parrottsville, Tennessee.
John served in the U.S. Army during WWII receiving the Silver Star and Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged, he re-entered the Army as a MSGT and served until 1955. Early in his post-military career, he worked at Rock Island Refinery in Indianapolis, and as a police officer in Las Vegas, NV. For over 25 years, John was a heavy equipment operator as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, retiring in 1989. After retirement, John became a sales associate for real estate agent Carter & Associates Century 21 in Noblesville. John was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7119 Lawrence, IN and American Legion Post 01 Paris, France. He was also a member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting his many favorite restaurants, including Logan's Steak House, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his step-children, Scott (Sheila) Lowther of Westfield, and Katrina (Lowther) Blackwell & Ed Rush of Fishers; his daughter, Maurica Legg of London, UK; and son, Tim Vicknair of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Lowther, Amanda Blackwell (Gary) Gleason, Vicki Gatewood (Jeff) Morgan, Kristi Gatewood (Brent) Sloderback, Aaron (Toni) Blackwell, India Mae Legg, Zoe Legg (Dele) Awodern and Maggie Vicknair; 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and brother, John was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne (Beaver) Blazer in 2009.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road in Indianapolis following a visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road in Fishers. Mr. Lanny Smith will officiate.
